HIGHLAND PARK. A shopping center with an unusual amount of history, Highland Park Village opened in 1931. It was the first collection of shops of its kind in the nation and has served as the model for many to come. An architectural melange of Spanish, Mediterranean, and Mexican styles, the open-air center became a town square of sorts and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2000. Today, upscale shops and restaurants populate the space, including Banana Republic, Hermès, Escada, Jimmy Choo, and Harry Winston. |
