Description:
|
SANTA MONICA. Known for an exceptional selection of sakes and an award-winning sushi bar, The Hump rests above its sister restaurant, Typhoon. The establishment's name honors WWII supply pilots, who crossed over the Himalayas and called Mount Everest "the hump." Diners can choose from a wide assortment of fresh sushi and sashimi; folks who shy away from raw seafood can take advantage of the menu's handful of cooked dishes. Contemporary decor and great views of airport take-offs and landings complete the experience. |

| | If you love sushi and are willing to pay top dollar, this is the only place to go. The atmosphere is sophisticated, but warm and inviting. The service is incomparable. But it is the sashimi and sushi that will keep you coming back. The fish is flown in practically daily from Asia and is the best I have had outside of Japan. Wonderful traditional fare is complemented by their culinary artistry with sashimi. Some of the selections include Serrano Chile, ponzu sauce and Yudzu. The presentation is spectacular (try the sweet lobster) and they even make a simple Tai sushi taste like a little bit of heaven. I have been to the Hump several times and would highly recommend it to everyone. |

| | As a real sushi lover, i was ready to enjoy a restaurant that had recieved so many glowing reviews...I was SORELY disappointed. We were served by a waiter who recommended ONLY the most expensive dishes and was visibly angered by our selection of plain sushi rolls.
The food was average...nothing special, and the meal was made even more pleasing by the table next to us who had been served a lobster so fresh, the poor thing was still moving after having been cleaved in two!
I strongly urge you not to experiment. |
