SANTA MONICA. Guitar shop by day, intimate live music mecca by night, McCabe's is one of metro LA's best bets. The decor is stripped down and basic – folding chairs and a makeshift stage – and no alcohol is served, but you really won't mind. The list of past performers is amazing and eclectic – Tom Waits, Cowboy Junkies, They Might Be Giants, Robyn Hitchcock, Bob Mould, Arlo Guthrie, Shawn Colvin, Ray Manzarek, T-Bone Burnett, Nerissa & Katryna Nields, Liz Phair, Mose Allison, Michelle Shocked, Richard Thompson, Evan Dando, Linda Ronstadt, John Lee Hooker, Vince Gill, and Tom Paxton, to name but a few. The first Sunday of each month is open mic night, and family-friendly performances are often scheduled. |
