Description:
|
Montréal derives its name from this centrally-located, wooded mountain, which functions as a park for residents. Designed by Frederic Law Olmsted, the park is popular for local outdoor adventures and both summer and winter activities. From its esplanade, the park affords a stunning view of downtown Montréal and the eastern portion of the city. Located around the park's edges are Mont-Royal Cemetery, Cimeterie Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, the University of Montréal and the neighborhoods of Westmount and Outremont. The cross on the mountain was erected in thanksgiving for receding waters in the midst of the 1642 flood. |
