SOUTHAMPTON PARISH. The beacon draws tourists near while warning ships and planes of the island's location. Gibb's Hill, built in 1846, was the island's first lighthouse. Although the eight flights of stairs to the top can seem rather daunting, the views of the island are splendid once you've arrived. Be sure to visit the Lighthouse Tea Room for breakfast, lunch or a simple cup of tea. The gift shop provides mementos and souvenirs. |
