U STREET. Constructed in the early 1920s, this building once hosted performances by Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. Louis Armstrong and other African-American talents also frequented the stage until the theater closed in the 1970s. No completely refurbished, the venue is more popular than ever.
