453 Newport Center Dr Fashion Island, Newport Beach  92660-6936 • 949-640-7697
Distance: ~3.62 mi from Fairmont Newport Beach
Description: NEWPORT BEACH. Restaurant namesake Roy Yamaguchi has raised eyebrows with his intrepid Fashion Island restaurant, which combines the spicy allure of the Pacific Rim with Southern Californian style and panache. The menu harmoniously blends flavors and spices, and seductive entrees range from Kahana-style shutome (Hawaiian swordfish with Roy's famous chutney and red curry sauce) to tri-peppercorn crusted ahi steak with balsamic-rosemary-chevre sauce. After dinner, sample one of Roy's own Y Sakes, the purest varieties distilled and bottled in the US.

Last night was an exceptional dinner for five of us. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. The Mahi-Mahi was more than one could eat, and the pear salad with goat cheese was exceptional. The chocolate souffle was hot and crusty on the outside and gooey on the inside, perfect ending to a wonderful meal!

After waiting 45 minutes with a reservation(we understand they can't make people leave)we were seated and waited 10 minutes for anyone to take our drink order (maybe that's why they were running so far behind)the server was distracted and uninterested. We ordered appetizers which were excellent. Our dinner came and while my steak was a little over cooked the food was wonderful. The service was slow but the food was great. Terrific people watching as well.
