Description:
A gracious, architecturally beautiful dining room looks out onto a stone-paved terrace and then across the river valley. It's a lovely space for dinner, or any meal for that matter. Conscientious servers attend each table, anticipating questions, providing ready answers. All of this goes hand-in-hand with the delectable cuisine, based on the best ingredients and culinary techniques. Among the options you'll find are Bow River trout, Alberta beef, Atlantic salmon, Saskatchewan venison, Arctic char, and maybe, pheasant. Each is perfectly complemented by an appropriate sauce and vegetables in keeping with the style of preparation. Desserts, of course, are absolutely sinful. Wines include Californian, French and Italian vintages. |

Description:
Thirty years in operation can mean only one thing: this place is good! An Edmonton institution, Japanese Village is a teppan yaki style restaurant, where skilled chefs slice, dice, sling and flip until you've had a beautiful multi-course meal. It's great fun for kids, but even if you don't have any to take along, it's still worth checking out. Along with acrobatically prepared beef, chicken and seafood, you can enjoy traditional sushi and sashimi, or even a hamburger (yikes!) if you so desire – there's something for everyone. |

Description:
The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald's Sunday brunch is quite the ritzy affair. It's then that the Empire Ballroom, formerly the hotel's main dining room, is set for a sumptuous midday buffet. If your notion of brunch is something akin to a jazzed up breakfast, you'll be immediately drawn to the crepe and omelette stations, and tables laden with breads, sweet pastries and fresh fruits. If you prefer a more savory approach, try the stir fry station, or sample the ever-changing array of lunch options such as Cajun rockfish with ratatouille or pasta primavera gratin. Of course, grazing is also an option: try a bit of this and a little of that, but be sure to visit the dessert table at least once. And while you're catching your second wind, take note of the beautifully painted ceiling, 24 feet above. Seatings on the hour; reservations are essential. |

A tribute both to the famous detective and his native land, this British-styled pub is just what you'd expect. Dark woodwork, stuccoed walls, and all the paraphernalia that gives a pub its life are on display here. You'll find Irish and British beers on tap, along with a good selection of Canadian brews and some international labels. The food extends beyond pub fare, so you can get steak and kidney pie or bangers and mash, or you can also opt for pastas, burgers, pizzas, and other dishes with a more global flavor. An amiable spirit runs through the place and its outdoor patio, which is a great place to sit during warm weather. Description:
Evocative of a small French bistro, La Table de Renoir is a successful combination of original art, quaint sidewalk tables, attentive and knowledgeable service, and a wonderful menu inspired by the bright flavors of the South of France. Provençal cuisine in all its glory is a welcome change from the often heavy and meat-centric meals typical of Northern climates. But an abundance of fresh vegetables, seafood and herbs take center stage here, in dishes like ratatouille, pissaladière, pheasant-pistachio pate, moules marinière, salade Niçoise, and grenouille à la Provençale. Rack of lamb and steak au poivre will please die-hard meat eaters, and if your weakness is sweets, traditional créme brûlée and tarte tatin are sure to satisfy. |
