Description:
Evocative of a small French bistro, La Table de Renoir is a successful combination of original art, quaint sidewalk tables, attentive and knowledgeable service, and a wonderful menu inspired by the bright flavors of the South of France. Provençal cuisine in all its glory is a welcome change from the often heavy and meat-centric meals typical of Northern climates. But an abundance of fresh vegetables, seafood and herbs take center stage here, in dishes like ratatouille, pissaladière, pheasant-pistachio pate, moules marinière, salade Niçoise, and grenouille à la Provençale. Rack of lamb and steak au poivre will please die-hard meat eaters, and if your weakness is sweets, traditional créme brûlée and tarte tatin are sure to satisfy. |

Description:
The name alone evokes visions of pastoral picnics, natural ingredients, and comely jeunes filles wading through fields of wildflowers. Of course, this cafe can't deliver all that, but you're welcome to dream. What they can guarantee is fabulous breads baked by hand and full of delicious morsels. Try the cranberry walnut, sun-dried tomato, or maybe the white chocolate-infused breakfast bread. If you don't want a whole loaf, try their pastries and muffins, accompanied by fresh-brewed, steaming coffee. It's a great Continental breakfast, sweet and filling without being too heavy or cloying. |

Description:
DOWNTOWN. A long-time Edmonton favorite, The Crêperie fairly oozes romance, but it's comfortable for families as well. If you plan to have dinner here, you'll be pleased to find plenty of choices such as savory crêpes stuffed with lovely combinations like asparagus, brie and smoked salmon, creamed spinach with mushrooms, and scallops in a sherry cream sauce. But where The Crêperie really shines is dessert. These sweet crêpes are an indulgence to be sure. The most popular is Crêpe Glace au Chocolat (a crêpe wrapped around vanilla ice cream topped with bittersweet chocolate sauce, whipped cream and toasted almonds), but the classic Crêpes Suzette are a sure winner too. Or, you could opt for chocolate fondue. Accompanied by a fantastic cup of coffee or espresso, dessert here is a always a surefire success. |

Description:
In the early 1900s, this attractive building functioned as a luxury apartment house. Today, it houses a fine restaurant on the ground floor and six spacious bed and breakfast suites (one to three bedrooms, with a kitchenette and elegant furnishings) upstairs. The restaurant is divided into five separate spaces, each with a French country atmosphere all its own. Food here is superb. Classic French dishes, such as beef tenderloin with Chambord demi-glace and Coquille St. Jacques, are presented alongside Canadian creations like elk medallions with saskatoon berry sauce and bison striploin with blueberry demi-glace. The weekly changing table d'hote menu is a great value – three courses for CAN50-55. |

Description:
Perhaps one of the most notable features of this restaurant is that is has survived, thrived even, since 1990, relying on nothing but word-of-mouth advertising. Chef Mark Gjini's skilled French cooking earns awed praise from regulars and food critics, who appreciate the simple approach he takes with classic dishes like Dijon-crusted lamb, Pernod-scented fish soup, filet mignon with peppercorn sauce. Service is assured, knowledgeable and ever so professional, without ever being pretentious – a treat to encounter in a restaurant of this caliber. The wine list is well chosen if a bit brief, and peppered with a few unusual selections. If you're looking for a quiet refined meal, this is it! |
