Description:
A gracious, architecturally beautiful dining room looks out onto a stone-paved terrace and then across the river valley. It's a lovely space for dinner, or any meal for that matter. Conscientious servers attend each table, anticipating questions, providing ready answers. All of this goes hand-in-hand with the delectable cuisine, based on the best ingredients and culinary techniques. Among the options you'll find are Bow River trout, Alberta beef, Atlantic salmon, Saskatchewan venison, Arctic char, and maybe, pheasant. Each is perfectly complemented by an appropriate sauce and vegetables in keeping with the style of preparation. Desserts, of course, are absolutely sinful. Wines include Californian, French and Italian vintages. |

Description:
The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald's Sunday brunch is quite the ritzy affair. It's then that the Empire Ballroom, formerly the hotel's main dining room, is set for a sumptuous midday buffet. If your notion of brunch is something akin to a jazzed up breakfast, you'll be immediately drawn to the crepe and omelette stations, and tables laden with breads, sweet pastries and fresh fruits. If you prefer a more savory approach, try the stir fry station, or sample the ever-changing array of lunch options such as Cajun rockfish with ratatouille or pasta primavera gratin. Of course, grazing is also an option: try a bit of this and a little of that, but be sure to visit the dessert table at least once. And while you're catching your second wind, take note of the beautifully painted ceiling, 24 feet above. Seatings on the hour; reservations are essential. |

The menu perfectly complements the gorgeous panorama, offering full-bodied entrees that meld European traditions and Canadian ingredients. Appetizers include potato and butternut squash soup, caramelized onion and Havarti flan, and pan-seared sea scallops. Main courses include tea-smoked Atlantic salmon, medallions of hazelnut-crumbled pork tenderloin, and pan-seared venison tenderloin. All dishes come with vegetable side dishes for a complete meal. A wine list, a martini list, cognacs, and live entertainment multiply the appeal of this fantastic restaurant. Pricey but worth it. |

Description:
The Sutton Place Hotel's restaurant is a quiet enclave of tasteful décor and attentive service. From its perch on the second floor, you can gaze into the atrium and the bustling activity below, or simply relax over a fine meal. If you're visiting for dinner, you can enjoy a grilled steak, roasted rack of lamb, or grilled Atlantic salmon, each accompanied by a side dish that could stand on its own, such as lemon risotto, asparagus with Pernod butter sauce, or tarragon polenta. Lunch is quite popular with the downtown business crowd, who nosh on creative salads, upscale gourmet sandwiches and warming soups. And Sunday brunch is not to be missed, with a bounty of good things beautifully laid out atop groaning buffet tables. An excellent wine list rounds out the offerings. |

Description:
Casual and inviting, this eatery specializes in Eastern European fare. For an authentic taste of the region, sample the borscht or the goulash. Sandwiches, burgers, and quiche are available if you want something standard, but look to the hot entrees for a real treat. There, you'll find a rich beef stroganoff, well-filled chicken crêpes, pierogies, and even fettuccine Moscow. The house specialty, côtelette de volaille, is also recommended; it consists of chicken breast in a white wine sauce, cooked with rice, onions, and mushrooms. If you've never tried the cuisine of this part of the world, you'll find satisfying comfort food par excellence. And, oh yeah, resident psychics are happy to give readings almost daily. |

Description:
Warm and elegant, this restaurant surrounds guests with texture and and visual stimulation. Aged brick, gleaming wood, and crisp linens perfectly complement a meal that also celebrates the texture of food. The seasonal menu includes starters like lobster and banana leaf package with Asian vegetables and cashews, or roast tomato tart with feta cheese. Main courses include pan-seared Bromme Lake duck breast, beef tenderloin wrapped with bacon, and filet of venison with chanterelle mushrooms and marsala sauce. Desserts are scrumptious too; just try to say no to macadamia-crusted carrot cake or a honey and coconut soufflé. The substantial wine list offers vintages by the bottle or the glass. Reservations strongly suggested. |

Description:
For years, Mirabelle has been considered one of Edmonton's nicer restaurants, but despite the upscale Continental menu and studied service, guests aren't expected to dress to the nines – business casual is the norm. During lunch hours the place buzzes with area professionals and government officials from nearby offices, and the fare is a bit more casual, ranging from sandwiches and salads to light entrees. In the evening, the mood is somewhat more romantic and intimate, with couples and friends taking time to reconnect over a fine meal and a glass of wine. Some of the most popular dinner choices are Beef Wellington and Crepes Mirabelle, thin, delicate little pancakes stuffed with chicken, baby shrimp and mushrooms in a creamy herb sauce. |
