Description:
AIRPORT - YOW. Dedicated in 1939, the National War Memorial of Ottawa was originally erected to honor the lives of 60,000 Canadian soldiers who died during the first World War and has since been known to commemorate all Canadian soldiers who have died in war. Also known as The Response, the statue stands 21 meters tall and pictures 22 bronze figures storming through a gateway to represent "The Response" of thousands of soldiers who answered the call to serve. In 2000, a Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was unveiled at the face of the monument and is usually garnered with flowers from those who pay their respects. Every November 11 makes this monument very special as the date is recognized as Remembrance Day in honor of those who have fallen in their sacrifice for ensuring freedom. |

Description:
AIRPORT - YOW. Once you've seen these beautiful falls with the downtown skyline in the background, it's easy to see why Ottawa's second-leading industry is tourism. Cross over the bridge to Green Island, and you can see the second section of falls. In the wintertime, the falls freeze, seeming to take on a curtain-like appearance ("rideau" means "curtain" in French). For the best vantage point of the falls, park next to the French Embassy on Sussex and make your way down to the park area. |
