Description:
RIDEAUVIEW. In 1987 Steve (Piccolo) Hambling took a trip to Italy. While there, he learned the art of making Italian ice cream, called gelato. Upon returning to Ottawa, he opened his first Piccolo Grande store at this location. Today, tourists and locals alike flock to this neat little shop to enjoy the myriad flavours, all of which are made with special ingredients imported from Italy. Step in for lunch, and you can precede your gelato experience with a freshly made panini or light salad. Although Piccolo Grande is open year-round, hours are shortened during the cold winter months, so call ahead! |

BYWARD MARKET. Featuring nouveau and traditional Italian fare, the elegant Spiga Restaurant & Lounge is an ideal destination for those seeking an intimate, perhaps romantic, restaurant. The well-spaced tables offer just the right amount of privacy, and the fantastic daily specials and extensive wine list help set the stage for what many regard as one of the ByWard Market's best meals. Be sure to save room for a cup of gourmet coffee and a little homemade dessert afterwards – you won't be disappointed. |

Description:
OUTLYING AREAS. Elegant décor and refined ambience make Le Baccara ideal for a special occasion (if there aren't any to celebrate, make one up!). The award-winning menu is impressive from the start – you might begin with smoked dried red deer loin with celery-truffle ice cream, Québec duck foie gras piccata, or perhaps Ossetra caviar. Signature mains include succulent rack of caribou in a nut-juniper berry crust, and veal mignons with seared lobster and polenta. Desserts are decadent, and the wine list includes some 500 varieties. |
