Bymark
(Restaurants - Continental)
66 Wellington St W, Toronto  M5K 1J3 • 416-777-1144
Distance: ~155 m *
Description: DOWNTOWN. Chef Mark McEwen (of North 44° fame) has a loyal following – one meal here, and you'll be joining the fan club. The space itself is attractive: uncluttered, with smooth lines and a muted color palette, it's a nice foil for McEwen's contemporary Continental cuisine. Foie gras is pan-seared and paired with the acidic tang of rhubarb compote and crunch of onion tempura. The signature Bymark Burger is topped with brie, pancetta, grilled porcini, shaved truffles and crisp onion rings. USDA Prime steaks, scallops with crab ravioli, whole roasted sea bream with fennel confit – it's all good. Each dish on the menu has a by-the-glass wine suggestion. Dinner is undeniably pricey, but lunch is just as good with less wallet impact.

Steak purists will be delighted with their options – simply grilled top quality beef, served with salad and potato or rice. Of course, there are other equally good choices, including cedar planked salmon, double cut pork chops, lamb and veal chops, and a fabulous chipotle sirloin. Save room for the signature dessert: bread pudding studded with brandy-soaked cranberries and white and dark chocolate chunks. Solid wine list.

Peter Pan
(Restaurants - Continental)
373 Queen St W, Toronto  M5V 2A4 • 416-593-0917
Distance: ~1.060 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. A long-standing Toronto classic, Peter Pan has been around for years, starting out as the place to go pre-prom or for a special anniversary. Over the years, the place morphed into a hippie hangout, but these days it flourishes as a friendly, casual bistro. The diverse international menu appeals to an equally diverse crowd. It's ideal if no one in your group can agree on whether to have Italian or Chinese, and there's one holdout that's hankering for a burger or a steak. The food is good, the ambience is welcoming, and the wine list includes several by-the-glass options.
