10Best Lounge
Foundation Room
(Nightlife - Lounge)
19 Church St, Toronto  M5E 1M2  • 416-364-8368
Distance: ~0.701 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. The owner of this posh lounge furnished it with acquisitions he found in a Marrakesh market, so the look is authentically colorful. Pillows and mirrors are abundant, which adds to the exotic vibe. Don't expect to mingle with a bunch of wild, trendy youngsters – the clientele is hip, but they're a bit more mature and laid back. Music is cool downbeat, perfect for lounging on a couch with a cocktail.

Rockwood
(Nightlife - Lounge)
31 Mercer St, Toronto  M5V 1H2 • 416-979-7373
Distance: ~0.705 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. A complex comprised of three separate spaces. The ground floor, Rock, is kitted out in granite and onyx, with splashes of purple light to liven things up just a bit. One floor up is Wood, a tranquilly decorated spot with giant lifelike murals of forests and wood surfaces everywhere. The rooftop is Grass, a plush indoor/outdoor space that incorporates the living green stuff as part of the décor, along with tiki huts and the stars above. There's a nice dance floor on the second floor, and plenty of cozy seating everywhere, making Rockwood ideal for a sophisticated night out.

Century Room
(Nightlife - Lounge)
580 King St W, Toronto  M5V 1M3 • 416-203-2226
Distance: ~1.436 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. What might have been cold and hard – décor comprised of stone, brick metal and wood – is transformed into something softer, sleek and contemporary here, with the addition of pink: pink lights here, a Barbie-pink wall there, pink glowing candles. The pink glow is flattering, to be sure (the occasional switch to vivid green light, not so much!). The crowd is mostly attractive 20- and 30-somethings in a party mood – of the relax-and-let-go-of-your-troubles sort. If you need a breather, check out the lovely courtyard.

2 Cats
(Nightlife - Lounge)
569 King St W, Toronto  M5M 1V1 • 416-204-6261
Distance: ~1.464 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. Smooth, unpretentious lounge 2 Cats appeals to a cross section of TO's populace, from swingin' hep cats to philosophical night owls. The modern version of lounge music – smooth soul, alt rock, deep house, even retro sounds – is the perfect backdrop. It starts out mellow and cool, and switches into high gear later in the evening. A martini goes down easy here.

Byzantium
(Nightlife - Lounge)
499 Church St, Toronto  M4Y 2C6 • 416-922-3859
Distance: ~2.231 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. A mixed crowd mimics the cosmopolitan nature of this bar's namesake, the Roman-Greek city of Byzantium, which later became known as Istanbul. Aside from that, there's little resemblance. The lounge is stylish and sophisticated; the dining room opposite is a bit more luxurious. Dining here is always an adventure, with globally inspired flavors and beautiful presentation. But simply sipping a cocktail or two in the bar can be, as well – the inspired martini list includes something like 100 different versions.

Wish
(Nightlife - Lounge)
3 Charles St E, Toronto  M4Y 1R9 • 416-935-0240
Distance: ~2.584 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. Styled after a chic South Beach club, Wish is all white walls, palm trees and pale wood. The vibe is casual and upbeat, and you can choose to eat a full meal, or nosh on appetizers and sip martinis for hours. The food, like the décor, is light and stylish. Choose grilled lamb chops with charred asparagus, fire grilled calamari, ceviche or wild mushroom ravioli. Trendy without being at all pretentious, Wish is owned by the same folks who operate 7 West Café, a fabulous 24-hour bar/restaurant.

Roof Lounge
(Nightlife - Lounge)
4 Avenue Rd Park Hyatt Toronto, Toronto  M5R 2E8 • 416-924-5471
Distance: ~2.780 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. For decades now, the Roof Lounge has been favored by a well-educated, impeccably dressed and moneyed crowd including actors, business executives, writers and fashionable society types. The swanky space on the 17th floor has a fabulous view, along with elegant décor and professional staff, some of whom have been here nearly as long as the bar itself. Your drink of choice should be a dry martini or something similarly classic – this is NOT the place to order a Velvet Crush, or anything with Midori or Blue Curacao.

Souz Dal
(Nightlife - Lounge)
636 College St, Toronto  M6G 1B4 • 416-537-1883
Distance: ~2.921 km *
Description: WEST TORONTO. Souz Dal has managed to be hip for several years now. The sultry space evokes exotic locations like Marrakesh or Istanbul with a vibrant color scheme, beaded curtains, lazy ceiling fans, flickering candlelight and velvet pillows. Music is usually down-tempo or trip hop. This is the sort of place where you sip martinis and cosmos, nibble on pistachios, and chill. Extremely popular for dates, too.

Amber
(Nightlife - Lounge)
119 Yorkville Ave, Toronto  M5R 1C4 • 416-926-9037
Distance: ~2.945 km *
Description: DOWNTOWN. If your main aim is to see and be seen, then don your finest designer threads and make your way to Amber, where getting past the door staff is just part of the fun. Sleek, predominantly white décor shows fashion house attire (and a fake tan) to its best advantage, and the bartenders are adept at both the classics and the new concoctions. Food is part of the draw – creative Asian-Mediterranean fusion cooking that's interesting and flavorful, without being too filling.
