Distance: ~0.885 km *
Description: This 56-acre site is the heart of Winnipeg and its number one tourist destination. The reasons are manifold: numerous free attractions, a park and lots of outdoor activities, great shopping, excellent restaurants, and even a historic site. Summer or winter, there's plenty to do at the Forks, from festivals and concerts to ice skating, skateboarding (Canada's largest urban skate park is here) and walking. Check out the Forks Market Plaza with a six-story tower and a viewing platform, the Wall Through Time (depicting events that took place here over the past 6000 years) or the Manitoba Children's Museum. Shop at the Johnston Terminal (a former cold storage warehouse), take in a show at the CanWest Global Performing Arts Centre, stroll along the paths of the Forks National Historic Site (or take a guided tour), rest your weary head at the Forks Inn, or take a quick jaunt on the Splash Dash Water Bus. Most individual businesses are open daily from at least 10am-6pm, but exact hours do vary. Individual attraction prices vary, most are free.

Bears on Broadway (Bears Beyond Broadway)
(Attractions & Activities - Sightseeing)
Various locations, Winnipeg  • 204-787-4143
Description: If you see a whimsically painted 7-foot concrete polar bear, and you will since there are 61 of them scattered around town, here's the story. In commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of CancerCare Manitoba in 2005, different Winnipeg businesses sponsored artists to decorate each bear to raise money for cancer awareness and research. The bears were all displayed on Broadway for several months, then put in storage. Now they have all been moved to their permanent homes around town. If you're pressed for time, there are two places where you can check out several bears at once: on Assiniboine Avenue behind the Manitoba Legislature, and at the Norquay Building.
