Description:
This is the fastest growing mountain bike series in North America. In fact, slots sell out within a week, so if you want to participate plan well in advance. Spectators have it a little easier, but you will be joining a crowd! Solo riders ride for 24 hours (from noon on Saturday until noon on Sunday), trying to complete as many laps as possible (usually about 16-20). Teams, on the other hand, consist of 4-10 riders so the distance each person rides is significantly less but the overall number of laps may be considerably higher. Most participants camp at the race site (there are fun things scheduled Saturday evening, like movies and corn roasts) and have some sort of pit crew to help with tire changes and pep talks; non-traditional awards are given for best pit theme and best helmet, so expect to see some crazy decorations. |

The Mountain Festival does the same thing with film: presenting screenings, guest speakers and discussions of the issues raised. A trade show with mountain-related merchandise is held in conjunction with the festivals, as is an arts and crafts show. |
