Place d'Armes
(Attractions & Activities - Parks)
15 rue St Anne Rue St-Louis and rue de Fort, Québec  G1R 4P5
Distance: ~39 m *
Description: VIEUX QUEBEC. In the past, this park was the site of military drills, exercises and parades. However, in the early 1900s, the Place d'Armes was re-opened as a public park. The Monument of Faith, a sculpture commemorating the arrival of Recollet Mona from France in 1615, now graces the park. In addition to the Monument of Faith , the park displays a diamond-shaped monument that hails Québec's designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Québec is the only city in North America to hold such grand distinction.

Parc la Cetière
(Attractions & Activities - Parks)
Côte de la Montagne, Québec  G1K 8S2 • 418-646-3167
Distance: ~77 m *
Description: VIEUX QUEBEC. This unique park's claim to fame is the collection of stone ruins dating from 1685. In 1972, archaeological excavations uncovered these old homes, which had been leveled during the British Conquest, rebuilt, and then damaged again in both 1948 and 1957 by fire. If you look closely, you can still make out some of the remnants of the old houses. The park is also the site of La Fresque des Québécois, the Mural of Quebecers.

Dating back to the mid-17th century, this attractive park, ideal for a late afternoon stroll or even a relaxing lunch break, has served in several different capacities throughout its history. In fact, after the British took over Québec, Lord Elgin had a home built on the site. It was destroyed by fire in the late 1940s, but visitors can still see some of the outbuildings, and the gardens surrounding the former residences continue to be carefully tended, offering an impressive collection of plant species for the amateur horticulturalist to admire.
