JAMES BAY. Descend 15 feet to the lower level of this glass-enclosed observatory and you can watch over 5000 species of marine life in their natural habitat. Sharks, eels, starfish, salmon, and "Armstrong" the giant octopus are all visible as they go about their daily business. The upper level features a "petting pool" where you can touch some of the sea's more gentle creatures. The provincial marine mammal rescue program brings injured and orphaned seals here – you can watch them recuperate in areas next to the observatory. |

JAMES BAY. The handcrafted wax figures on display were created at Madame Tussaud's in London and shipped to Victoria. From royalty to rogues, some 300 life-size wax figures from England are displayed throughout two floors of exhibits. The most recent arrival to "Royalty Row" is the Golden Jubilee figure of Queen Elizabeth II. Visitors experience a variety of themed areas such as the Chamber of Horrors, Garden of Literature, Galaxy of Stars, and Crown Jewels Theatre, culminating with Frozen in Time, a story from Canada's frozen north. Queen Victoria, after whom the capital city of British Columbia is named, continues to "reign" in Victoria's world of wax.

DOWNTOWN. Crafted by skilled artisans this historic marvel of stone, marble, mosaic and stained glass was designed by Francis Rattenbury and built in 1898. The Parliament buildings are complete with beautiful grounds, sculptures and fountains. During parliamentary sessions, the public is welcome to sit in the gallery and watch the legislature at work. Otherwise, the 30-minute informative tours are suggested. |

DOWNTOWN. When the first section of this building was constructed in 1871, it was the tallest masonry structure in the city, and pre-dated Victoria's incorporation. St. Ann's served as the area's first Roman Catholic Church, and it has been a girl's school and convent. Today the restored building mostly houses government offices, but the chapel, built in 1858, is still open for public viewing. |

Description:
DOWNTOWN. Explore British Columbia's rich maritime history in this museum's extensive collection. There are 70 model ships, uniforms, weapons and artifacts that highlight the early fur trade, whaling industry, royal navy and ocean liner era. Other exhibits include a history of the BC ferry system, and an exhibit dedicated to the circumnavigation of the globe. Currently on display is the "Tilikum," the first dug-out canoe to make the attempt. Captained by John Voss, she set sail from Victoria in 1901 and arrived in England in 1904, having tackled three of the world's angriest oceans. Be sure to take a ride on the museum's ornate, gilded lift that dates from 1889 – it is the oldest operating birdcage elevator in North America. |
