| |
Description:
PEMBROKE PARISH. Located on the second floor of a historic former whiskey warehouse, the Pickled Onion has been a favorite for years. The classy space has that retro-modern look, with lots of warm wood and 1950s-styled furniture and lighting. The lengthy menu, though, is thoroughly modern. Start with an appetizer such as lobster and corn tostadas, Chinese five-spice ribs or fig and prosciutto flatbread. Enjoy an inventive brick oven pizza (topped with Latin pulled pork, tequila marinated shrimp, roasted vegetables and the like). Or choose a main course like macadamia-crusted rockfish, island-spiced chicken, tamarind-lemongrass duck or a perfectly grilled steak. After dinner, the ambience turns a bit livelier, with live music (bands start at 10:30pm) and well-poured cocktails. |

This English-style pub is located in a renovated naval cooperage (where casks and barrels were made), and the exposed stone walls, old barrels and antique forge are still part of the decoration. Many fine brews are on tap – try a Watneys, Newcastle or Guinness – but be sure to sample the superb pub food as well. For lunch try the steak and mussel pie, bangers and mash, or a fresh salad.
