        Description: CHRIST CHURCH PARISH. This beach, the biggest on the south coast, is very popular with locals and tourists. Located near Rockley, it features public changing facilities and a parking lot; snorkeling equipment and beach umbrellas are available for rent. Hungry for a snack? Vendors sell food and handicrafts from booths along the sand.

        Description: CHRIST CHURCH PARISH. Adventureland offers a variety of tour options that promise to get you away from the crowds. The most popular is the Congaline Adventure, a full-day Land Rover tour of several off-the-beaten-path destinations, which includes lunch and beverages. The Turtle & Shipwreck Adventure is a trip via catamaran to a natural cove where you can snorkel and swim amongst hawksbill and green sea turtles and shipwrecks. The Mini-Buggy tour is a guided off-road experience in two-seater vehicles. Private tours are available, and you can also charter a catamaran or rent a Land Rover for the day.

        Description: ST. JOSEPH PARISH. This garden was named for Andromeda, the Greek maiden tied to a rock and sacrificed to a sea monster. Also located on rock, the specimens at this garden's six cultivated acres can be found on a cliff overlooking the rugged Atlantic Ocean. Thousands of orchids, hibiscus, ferns, begonias and palms thrive among the jagged rocks, gurgling streams and calm ponds. The flower garden is also a haven for many animals – don't be surprised to catch sight of a lizard, mongoose or monkey! Designed by renowned horticulturalist Iris Bannochie in 1954.

Animal Flower Cave

        Description: ST. LUCY PARISH. The "animal flowers" in these famed caves are actually sea anemones. The cave interior is carpeted with these sea creatures, which include yellow anemones as well as a few of the rarer, small purple variety. When in the cave, be sure to look out toward the sea – the view of the surf breaking is spectacular. Shops (above ground) sell souvenirs and snacks.

Atlantis Submarine

        Description: ST. MICHAEL PARISH. Want to view shipwrecks and coral but don't like to get wet? A tour aboard the $3 million, 28-passenger submarine Atlantis is just the ticket! Your visit begins with an informational video; then you board the sub, submerge to a depth of 130 feet, and begin a narrated tour of a shipwreck, sponge garden and coral reef. Divers accompany the sub and feed the fish so you get to view many colorful species at close range. After your trip you are even awarded a dive certificate! This is family-friendly entertainment, but children must be at least 3 feet tall to participate. Atlantis also offers an exciting "power snorkel" adventure, which makes use of individual hand-held underwater scooters.

        Description: ST. MICHAEL PARISH. Located in the former British military prison, the museum opened its doors in 1933. Exhibits detail the island's development from prehistoric to modern times. You will see artifacts dating to 400BC from the Arawak culture. Also on display are slave journals, West Indian maps, cane-harvesting tools, and decorative and fine art. The museum also features a children's gallery, gift shop and a wonderful café where you can rest and refresh with a soda or coffee.

Barbados National Trust Sunday Hikes

        Description: ST. MICHAEL PARISH. The Barbados National Trust owns and operates many of the island's important historical sites. Every Sunday, January through March, they offer two, free guided tours through some of the most beautiful sections of the island. An early bird hike is scheduled at 6:00am in addition to the 3:30pm outing. Tours cover about 5-14 miles and last for roughly three hours. Groups are divided into slow, medium and fast walkers. Call for routes and meeting locations.

        Description: ST. PETER PARISH. Tours through this wildlife sanctuary are self-guided. The Barbados Primate Research center has imported green monkeys to the area, where they thrive among the magnificent mahogany trees. In this open air zoo you'll also see deer, tortoises, a wide variety of tropical birds, and numerous snakes and iguanas.
