Sometimes, the carefully designed clubs fall into that "all style and no substance" trap. Not so, Lotus One. On the one hand is the decor – this is about as contemporary as it gets, with leather couches, hardwood floors, chairs suspended from the ceiling, mood enhancing light effects, and even a small stream visible through a glass "window" in the floor. On the other hand, they have surprisingly good pan-Asian food, an eclectic array of cocktails and awesome music. It manages to be comfortable and cutting-edge, all at once. Highly recommended. |

The Peppermint, with its discreet – not to say easily missed – side-of-hotel entrance and distinctive vibe, has a genuinely exclusive feel. Throughout the year a steady stream of big name DJs is attracted here, because it means something to have a gig at the Peppermint's Barajeel Ballroom on their résumé. The only drawbacks are the real possibility of snaking queues, particularly on weekends, and the certainty that unaccompanied males will be denied entrance. |
