Balkan
(Restaurants - Vegetarian)
120 Banff Ave, Banff  T1L 1A4 • 403-762-3454
Description: Dotted with classical busts and ethnic accents, this family-owned restaurant shakes up the dining scene with its authentic Greek cuisine. Those craving traditional dishes will be pleased by broiled calamari, dolmades, moussaka and souvlaki. They're made with care, just as you'd expect. Other options include stuffed peppers, grilled salmon, Greek ribs, lemon chicken and several different pasta dishes. The house specialty, roast lamb, is fantastic, as are the broiled lamb chops and Balkan steak. Lunch specials are ideal if you've already got dinner plans but develop an insatiable desire for spanakopita during the day. Special Greek fun nights include belly dances and live music – OPA!

Fuze
(Restaurants - Vegetarian)
110 Banff Ave Clock Tower Village Mall, Banff  T1L 1C9 • 403-760-0853
Description: "Finer dining" is the goal here, and Fuze has certainly mastered it. The award-winning establishment serves a fabulously eclectic, internationally inspired menu. You might start with the signature roasted tomato soup garnished with bacon, pesto cream and olive oil, or with a "trio of tartare" with scallops, tuna and salmon. Main courses range from charbroiled Alberta beef tenderloin with foie gras, braised oxtail and truffle-scented madeira sauce, to Thai style shellfish risotto, to Indian barbecued chicken with couscous salad. The patio and lounge menu is shorter and more casual with choices such as tempura fried sushi rolls, chipotle wings, and fried artichokes with aioli. Plenty of vegetarian options, too.

Nourish
(Restaurants - Vegetarian)
215 Banff Ave Sundance Mall, Banff  • 403-760-3933
Description: An appealing little bistro on the second floor of Sundance Mall, Nourish took over when the also vegetarian Sunfood Café moved to Canmore. With flowy curtains, a vibrant paint job, and funky little bits of artwork on the walls, the restaurant highlights the bright aspects of its healthy, international menu. Everything is suitable for vegetarians: Shepherd's pie, teriyaki tofu, gingered vegetables, burgers, paninis, burritos and soups. There are also organic, vegan, and wheat and gluten free choices, and the staff is quite accommodating for those with food allergies. Accompany your meal with an organic wine or beer, or choose a specially blended tea from the selection on the tea bar. Quite a find in Canadian beef country!
