Description:
Deliciously creative food is the hallmark of this bistro, which is a latter-day incarnation of one of the city's best former catering companies. The cuisine is incredibly innovative, and diners often come to discover the newest combinations and entrees. Salads and appetizers benefit from what's seasonal, as do the main courses. Representative dishes include grilled pork, pheasant, roasted pumpkin soup, chanterelle-dusted beef tenderloin, squash seed-crusted ahi tuna, and grilled salmon. Each dish is laced with unusual flavors too, whether it be tropical fruit, fresh herbs, or a rich infusion of bacon. The desserts follow the same tack and add innovation to tradition. It's a formula for success all the way around. A wide selection of wines by the glass. |

Description:
A stately brick house with lovely architectural details and loads of charm awaits diners at this popular restaurant. Given the name (which means "wharf"), the place specializes in seafood. You'll find a regular selection of oysters from both coasts, scallops, Dungeness crab cakes, and a robust seafood medley that combines salmon, mussels, prawns, scallops, and lobster in a savory sauce. If you happen not to be a seafood lover, the restaurant offers pastas, lamb, quail, and a number of other turf-based dishes. The wine list is terrific, should you want to add a selection or two to your dinner, and desserts are scrumptious all the way around. The patio is a great place to enjoy food and drink when the weather is cooperative. |

Description:
Although California is miles away, a little taste of it can be had at this trendy restaurant. Known for its designer pizzas and flatbread sandwiches, the eatery attracts diners who want to munch on entrees that feature fresh ingredients and don't seem so heavy. Among their offerings, you'll find a tasty salmon salad, grilled chicken, and more. The place is also good for drinks, and you can sip a cold beverage while you watch patrons posture along the sidelines. The social scene is big here, obviously, although you can also watch sports events or trivia competitions on the TVs. |

Description:
Western in theme, decor and food, this casual establishment offers up hearty, rustic fare that harks back to Calgary's early days. This is food for cowboys and those who perform physical labor (and anyone who likes meat, for that matter). You'll find steaks, burgers, rotisserie chicken and ribs at the top of the menu, along with southwestern-influenced dishes like quesadillas, fajitas, chili, pastas and the like. Desserts are just as substantial and require a bit of reserve space in your belly. A kid's menu takes care of those who are just developing an adult appetite, and the bar serves up the modern-day equivalent of white lightning and moonshine. Saddle up! |

Description:
This stylish venue has attracted quite a following since its inception. Just off Stephen Avenue, Murietta's refurbished building boasts high ceilings, exposed brick, and hip furnishings. The open dining room has an exhibition kitchen, from which come such treats as Australian rack of lamb, roast chicken, osso bucco, bouillabaisse, fresh fish, and a variety of pastas. If you have room after these dishes, make sure to try something from the dessert menu. The Squirrel Nut Tart is fantastic if you love nuts; it combines hazelnuts, pecans, and pistachios and is topped with whiskey-laced cream. Delicious! Adjoining the dining room is a bar area that's incredibly popular in the evenings. It's great on its own or as a before- or after-dinner hangout. |

Description:
Befitting a cowboy-oriented restaurant, the rustic decor features wooden furniture, a wealth of Western artifacts, and woven blankets hung across the windows to subdue the light. The menu features dishes that cowboys would've known, along with updated fare that's more in keeping with contemporary tastes. Steaks are prominent, and their specialty, the sirloin, comes in three sizes. You'll also find filet mignon, T-bones, and burgers of beef, buffalo, chicken and fish. Additional items include meatloaf, salmon, pasta and ribs. Signature dishes include the hearty "Son of a Bitch" stew and the homey saskatoonberry pie. If you're really adventurous, you might want to sample the buffalo tongue appetizer or even the prairie oysters (calves' testicles). Enjoy! |

Description:
This long-established steak house boasts a classical theme, including Ionic columns, gleaming red leather chairs, and dark, polished woodwork. The multi-level restaurant is divided into lounge and dining room areas, depending on your intent. Charcoal-broiled steaks are the primary attraction, although Caesar's does a fine sauteed scampi too. You'll also be pleased by their capable touch with seafood, chicken, chateaubriand and ribs. Many of the options are four-course, so you can expect to eat heartily and well. The restaurant lays claim to having invented the Bloody Caesar, which is essentially a Bloody Mary with clamato juice instead of tomato juice. The cocktail has become a Canadian favorite, and this is the place to sample the original recipe. |
