Dim and romantic, this dining room invites quiet conversation amid its dark woodwork and forest-green walls. A cream-and-Wedgwood-blue color scheme lightens the space, which also sports mounted fish and framed prints of Canadian wildlife. Alberta steaks are carved in a number of cuts and paired with crab legs, lobster, prawns and other delicacies. Seafood dishes include sautéed scallops, rainbow trout, and West Coast halibut and salmon. Chicken, ribs, pasta and pizza also make satisfying entrees, as do the handful of Greek offerings. This comfy venue welcomes diners with a spate of good food. The place doesn't stand on formalities, but why would you need to? Guests know they're respected by the quality of the cuisine. Hearty eaters go for the steaks: The grilled New York cut is graced with Danish blue cheese and mushrooms, and the Black Angus filet mignon benefits from a light brandy-peppercorn demi-glace. Due in part to the restaurant's longevity, it has become "Jasper's authority on prime rib." It regularly serves up Alberta's best beef to hungry patrons, who test their appetites with a 16-ounce T-bone or the signature prime rib, made extra succulent with a rich au jus. Surf and turf adds a lobster tail to the charcoal-broiled cut of meat. Beyond steak, there's chicken, lamb, trout, veal and barbecued ribs. Seafood also pulls in its fair share of diners, who clamor for sauteed scallops and prawns broiled in a special garlic sauce.
