Charley's Restaurant
(Restaurants - Breakfast)
142 Hana Hwy, Paia  96779 • 808-579-9453
Description: PAIA. Found along Maui's north shore and named after the owner's dog, this restaurant is a favorite with those making the journey to Hana. Breakfasts are huge, whether you opt for a fluffy pancake or a savory omelet. Breakfast burritos and eggs benedict are also on the menu and are a terrific way to ward off hunger for a day of adventure. Always busy, Charley's welcomes people of all sorts. You're as likely to encounter a gaggle of windsurfers on the way to Ho'okipa Beach as you are to see area musicians strike up a chord.

Pauwela Cafe
(Restaurants - Breakfast)
375 W Kuiaha Rd Pauwela Cannery, Haiku  96708 • 808-575-9242
Description: HAIKU. You may have to ferret out this small cafe, but you'll be well-rewarded for your diligence. Casual and fun, it's a favorite hang-out of the windsurfers heading to Ho'okipa Beach. After sampling the food, it'll be your favorite too. At lunch, the selection includes salads, sandwiches, and other specials, but they're not the expected fare. Breads alone exceed the ordinary, whether you choose a baguette, potato bread, or some other herb-studded sensation. The kalua turkey sandwich is a hands-down winner: juicy turkey, melted cheese, and green-chile and cilantro sauce, all on a chewy, crusty roll.
