10Best Mediterranean
Michy's
(Restaurants - Mediterranean)
6927 Biscayne Blvd, Miami  • 305-759-2001
Distance: ~8.84 mi *
Description: UPPER EAST SIDE. This snug little French-Med charmer on Biscayne is owned by Michelle Bernstein (she formerly headed Azul at the Mandarin Oriental). The space itself sports a certain sense of whimsey – the bold blue and orange hues of the walls, the Capiz-shell chandeliers, the kicky orange banquettes, and the assorted chairs, many of which look like they came from thrift stores or yard sales. The cuisine, meanwhile, reflects Bernstein's rich background, from her classical French training to her affinity for Southern, Latin, Italian and even Asian nuances. As you might expect, the results are simply magical. NB The place sits around 60, so reservations are a must.

Van Dyke Café
(Restaurants - Mediterranean)
846 Lincoln Rd Lincoln Mall, Miami Beach  33139 • 305-534-3600
Distance: ~11.76 mi *
Description: SOUTH BEACH. This cafe-society outpost has the same ownership as the ever-popular News Cafe, but this one is less touristy, with a loyal local clientele. Casual crowds, groups of business people, families and lone newspaper readers are common sights. At breakfast, the menu features traditional eggs Benedict, heart-healthy egg white omelets served with fruit salad, and zesty eggs Florentine. Later in the day, the cookie platter, which features six hockey puck-sized varieties, is a fan favorite. In the evening, the upstairs jazz club is a swinging place to mingle.

Tantra
(Restaurants - Mediterranean)
1445 Pennsylvania Ave, Miami Beach  33139 • 305-672-4765
Distance: ~12.01 mi *
Description: SOUTH BEACH. With its exotic atmosphere and Mediterranean-influenced menu, this restaurant and bar titillates the senses. The floor is covered in soft grass – yes, real growing grass – and the main dining area's Moorish aesthetic shines through in plush couches and a waterfall. Aphrodisiac martinis and a satisfying wine list hint at the range of beverages; food – should you desire it – includes filet mignon and a lobster napoleon. A great place to impress. Vallet parking: $20.

Pelican Cafe
(Restaurants - Mediterranean)
826 Ocean Dr Pelican Hotel, Miami Beach  33139 • 305-673-1000
Distance: ~12.61 mi *
Description: SOUTH BEACH. If you're halfway through the day and still have a taste for breakfast, it's available here until late afternoon. The extensive breakfast menu runs the gamut from toast and pastries to elaborate omelets and fruit-topped waffles. The cafe is also a great place to kick back and do some serious people-watching – especially at one of the outdoor tables – with a Bloody Mary in hand. The funky industrial decor is reflected throughout the hotel, which is owned by the Diesel clothing company. Lunch and dinner menus feature tasty Italian-Mediterranean cuisine in ample portions.

Big Fish
(Restaurants - Mediterranean)
55 SW Miami Ave, Miami  33130 • 305-373-1770
Distance: ~13.35 mi *
Description: DOWNTOWN. Big Fish is located in the dockside warehouses, and you never know who you might run into here, as the diverse clientele ranges from buttoned-down professional types to the older weathered characters who can spin a great yarn about their days at sea. The menu is limited, focusing on – you guessed it – fantastic fresh fish. The owner is friendly and accommodating and will make sure you walk away happy. The decor is full of personality, with a tin roof and tables of different sizes, shapes and styles. Most of the seating is on the sprawling outdoor deck, making this an ideal spot for a unique lunch on a sunny day. Casual to business casual attire.

1200 Courtyard Grill
(Restaurants - Mediterranean)
1200 Anastasia Ave Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables  33134 • 305-445-8066
Distance: ~17.45 mi *
Description: CORAL GABLES. This restaurant is known for having the area's best breakfast, but its vast champagne brunch buffet on Sundays (10am-3pm) presents some tough decisions. Everything is presented so elegantly, you'll want a little bit of it all. How about an omelet made any way you like? Pastas? Sushi? Or even caviar? Afterwards, there's a chocolate fountain and no shortage of sinful dessert offerings. Indeed, no one walks away hungry! Live music complements the meal perfectly, and al fresco seating is available in the tropical courtyard.
