Description:
The Cinequest San Jose Film Festival, which was started by a group of local filmmakers in order to promote innovation in film and appreciation for the filmic arts, takes place at several venues throughout the city. The schedule usually includes a variety of screenings, guest lecturers, and demonstrations. Famous names who have participated in past festivals include Kevin Spacey, Wes Craven, Peter Fonda, and Gus Van Sant. Most screenings take place at the Camera 3 Cinema. The festival takes place in late February to early March. |

Description:
Since 1963, talented American composers have used the Cabrillo Festival to introduce their new works to the public. This orchestral music celebration takes place in August at several area venues, although most performances are at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. Past composers and performers have included Carlos Chavez, Christopher Rouse, Frank Zappa, Kronos Quartet, Phillip Glass, Tania Leon and John Adams. Families can enjoy a free concert designed just for youngsters. |

Description:
The San Jose Jazz Festival, which is held downtown every August, is a series of free concerts that usually attracts more than 100,000 people. It is the largest free jazz concert in the world. Most of the festival's best performances take place in Cesar Chavez Park. The festivalgoers are fairly eclectic – as are the magicians who perform – and it tends to get crowded fairly early. The festival is free of charge. |
