Description:
The scooter set and their loved ones will delight in this cultural fair just for them. A celebration of the fantastic diversity and spirit of the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender community in Vancouver seen over seven days through multiple events. The annual pride week culminates in a lavish parade put on by the Vancouver Pride Society that includes friends, family and supporters. Beginning at Denman Street, the parade follows a straight route to Beach Avenue where the costumes and floats of participants are rivaled only by views of English Bay. A week's worth of events includes dances, picnics, a day at Playland Amusement Park, musical performances and art exhibitions. |

Description:
Early August heralds the Powell Street Festival which bills itself as the largest Japanese festival in Canada. Both traditional and contemporary Japanese Canadian performances take the stage during a weekend of celebration. You can hear the throbbing taiko drums and thrill to the technique of folk and modern dance. For martial arts fans, demonstrations are held as well sumo wrestling matches. There is also a mix of music, visual arts and films to see, crafts to make and plentiful offerings of Japanese food. Events vary in price and location, though events in Oppenheimer Park and Firehall Arts Centre are free. |

Description:
Top Canadian and international films are shown throughout this ten-day festival held each September or October. Over 300 films from more than 50 countries are shown at four local theaters and include dramatic features, documetaries, comedies and animated shorts, along with alternative theater and performance art. Due to Canadian law, you must be a member of the Film Festival Society and be 18 or older to see many of the films (they are unrated). Memberships are easily obtained at the door, or online. |
