Local Shopping
Westfield Shoppingtown-Valley Fair
2855 Stevens Creek Blvd., San Jose  95050 • 408-248-4451
Distance: ~3.16 mi
Description: Valley Fair and Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto tend to attract the same set of chain stores and clientele. Though, Valley Fair has become more trendy with its mid-range and upscale clothes stores and popular houseware chains like Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn Kids. Teens and adults find this mall the perfect shopping haven.
Stop in at Bare Escentuals, The Body Shop, or M.A.C. Cosmetics for a little pampering. Sephora holds a veritable smorgasbord of beauty products. Regis Hair Salon cuts and styles but know what you want when you arrive. Upscale stores like Banana Republic, bebe and Espirit reside alongside Express and Contempo Casuals. Macy's stores flank the mall with Nordstrom somewhere in between. There are typical mall jewelers, like Zales and Crescent in addition to high-class shops like Tiffany's.

Great Mall of the Bay Area
447 Great Mall Drive, Milpitas  95035 • 408-956-2033
Distance: ~5.48 mi
Description: While prices at the Great Mall are, on average, lower than high-end malls, don't expect the dirt-cheap bargains you find at factory outlets in San Francisco's garment district. You're paying for the convenience of a shopping center. Most of the merchandise is aimed at families with children. A Century 20 movie multiplex, Van's Skate Park and Dave & Buster's offers a bit of escape for adolescents and adults.
Most of the usual discount suspects--Marshall's, Burlington Coat Factory and Old Navy--sit alongside more upscale stores like Espirit and bebe. High fashion retailers include Saks, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan. Parents can find plenty for the little ones at the GapKids and Carter outlets. Typical food court fare from Cinnabon to Subway.

Stanford Shopping Center
180 El Camino Real, Palo Alto  94304 • 650-617-8585
Distance: ~16.76 mi
Description: This high-end mall, just north of the Standford campus, is divided into two parts with the main section anchored by Macy's, Nieman-Marcus and California's first Bloomingdale's. Across Arboretum Road is Nordstrom, a two-story Crate & Barrel and the posh supermarket, Andronico's.
Gleim Jewelers, the world's first Victoria's Secret, Tiffany's jewelry store, and an open-air Polo/Ralph Lauren shop draw plenty of Silicon Valley shoppers. Drop in at Cornelia Park--an exceptional houseware store that is reminiscent of the Mad Hatter's tea party. Ralph Lauren, TSE, MaxMara and Cielo all carry high-end designer clothing. There's also Gap, Banana Republic, The Limited and other mid-level retailers.
