Seigneur Louis-Joseph Papineau settled Montebello in 1850 when he built his manor home on a hill overlooking the Ottawa River. His younger brother had settled on the Plaisance Peninsula some years earlier. Today, you'll find that famous surname on street signs, restaurants, shops, a wildlife reserve and even a nearby town, Papineauville.
