Napa Valley / Sonoma Valley, CA Factoid
After spending a good portion of his life either at sea or exploring the wilds of Alaska, writer, adventurer, and native Californian Jack London finally settled in central Sonoma County around 1905. His Beauty Ranch was located just west of Glen Ellen. In 1911, London and his wife saw their $80,000 dream house (Wolf House) get underway; sadly, the house burned to the ground in August of that same year. Today, all that remains of the ranch is a 40-acre tract that has been designated Jack London State Historic Park and includes London's grave, the ruins of Wolf House, and the House of Happy Walls.
