Stoney Indians bestowed this name on the waterfall; in their language, it means "turbulent waters." The reason it's so powerful is twofold: first, the water has to push through a narrow rock passage, and secondly, the Sunwapta River changes course suddenly from northwest to southwest, thanks to debris left behind by a glacier. A trail wanders along the river, offering views of both the upper and lower falls. Picnic sites are available, and freezing temperatures sculpt the water into fascinating shapes. 33 miles south of Jasper. Hours: Park Daily Open 24 Hours
